Tell me something, what does the queen mean to you, as a British citizen? (I'm asking because I'm American, and haven't the slightest idea how to think about a symbolic monarchy.)

The Queen is a figure head in our society, there are probably many people that see her a "Britain". But to me that seems a little out dated now, of course she is part of Britain and she is an icon of Britain but like many other things. She is like a celebrity, but an extremely respectable and dignified celebrity. But the monarchy isn't seen as it used to be, it is part of British heritage and tradition now.

Hope that gives an incite :P

So it's a lot like how we view our movie stars here in America, minus the cocaine, alcohol, and terrifying sex parties?

Sort of, in the way you have people that utterly adore them and then those that see them on the news and think hmmm and nothing more.

She's probably best described as political icon but without power but just as much respect.
